Compass Divination: Finding Direction in the Cards

Last week, Bob requested that this week’s “Divination Inspiration” post be inspired by a bag of stones.  Unfortunately, the stones nor the bag could be found!  (I guess it will have to wait until next year, eh?)  Instead, I went to my favorite oracle deck, The Enchanted Map:

The Enchanted Map is a favorite not just because the cards are beautiful, but also because it has shown me over and over again that there is more to this world than meets the eye…  As with the previous oracle posts, feel free to use these cards as today’s inspiration (for your life or your writing) and/or as a writing prompt.  You can consider the “you” to be YOU-you or one of your characters (or both of course).

And so, without further fanfare, I offer up five cards from the Enchanted Map deck:

For the Poets:

Meaning Excerpt: “An open heart will hear the message.”  …There is a time to speak and a time to be silent.  Now is an occasion for listening.  Pay attention not only to what is being spoken, but also to what is not being said as well…

For the Fiction Writers:

Meaning: “Slow and steady wins the race.”  …This is a time for easy movement, unhurried steps, and a steady heart.  Trust that taking life at a more leisurely pace will give you greater access to your dreams…

For the Creative Non-Fiction Writers:

Meaning (REVERSED):  “As long as you orient your compas to True North-the direction of your higher power-you will never be lost.”  You’ll never truly find what you seek if worries and distractions are your focus.  Surrender…and shift your compass.  Be still and watch as the needle points to True North.  Align yourself and you’ll easily find your way back to where you’re meant to be…

For the Playwrights:

Meaning (REVERSED): “Life is filled with lessons.  Be teachable.” …A strident lust for certainty will never bring you the wisdom you seek.  Pretending to know more than you do won’t make you wise.  Be assured that not knowing is a magical place to be…

For the Graphic Novelists and Those Writing in Other Forms:

Meaning (REVERSED): “You are free to express your uniqueness to the world and share in all the bounty of life’s endless possibilites.” …Envy, jealousy, and possessiveness are the character flaws to be careful of at this time.  You or someone else is closed off, unable to remain open to new ideas or intimacy.  Heed the gentle warning…

And now?  Go write!
